A ceaselessly active landscape of farm and field, of streams and bush paths, of wooden and corrugated-iron shacks, tea shops and lodging houses, of crammed buses and pick-up vans, of overloaded bicycles, and of streets wandered by goats, chickens and toddlers. Off the more heavily trodden tourist routes, you’ll find a rewarding degree of warmth, openness and curiosity in Africa’s towns and villages. And out in the wilds, there is an abundance of superb scenery - vistas of rolling savannah dotted with huts and herds, high cool farmland, dense forests bursting with bird song and insect noise, and stony, shimmering desert - all of which comes crisply into focus when experienced in person.

The Lodges

All the lodges are small and private, secluded and privately or community managed. Many of the locations we recommend are homesteads on private farms or exclusive concessions on group ranches, the accommodation is hosted by the farm owners or managers. You interact with your hosts throughout your stay. Nearly all of these locations sleep 16 or less and guests are welcomed as friends, they have the place virtually to themselves and can experience a true wilderness adventure. Your stay contributes greatly to conservation and community development.

We specialize in small group expeditions, ranging from one to ten people. This means personalized service, increased trip flexibility, and minimal environmental impact.
We contribute a portion of the proceeds to local conservation and research projects. The contribution funds work in the area of the expedition.
We offer personal knowledge of every area we travel to. Having been to each destination and often designing the trips after our own experiences, we are able to provide first hand information about the destination, local culture and environment.
